Rationale:

This course covers the aspects of sophisticated analytical instruments and their calibration techniques to analyze fertilizers, water, biomass and natural product samples.

  2. Collect and process water and fertilizer samples for chemical analysis.
  3. Analyze manures and fertilizers for quality control.
  4. Determine water quality parameters for different usage.

  1. a) Analytical/electronic balance; b) pH meter; c) Conductivity meter; d) Colorimeter/Spectrophotometer; e) Flame photometer, f) Atomic absorption spectrophotometer, g) Chromatograph, h) GM counter and i) Scintillation counter.

Sampling: Principles and procedures for collection and preparation of water and fertilizer samples.

Manure and fertilizer analysis: Moisture and nutrient contents in cow dung, FYM, poultry manure, compost, urea, SSP, TSP, DAP, MoP, gypsum, borax, zinc sulphate and copper sulfate. Qualitative identification of adulterated fertilizers.

Water analysis: Analysis of water for pH, EC, TDS and different ionic constituents including toxic metals like As, Cd, Cr, Pb & Hg.

Nuclear chemistry: Basic techniques of radiotracer assay in agriculture.
